# Equipment

## What is {{variable.Assets_CAP}}?
{{variable.Assets_CAP}} represents physical items you don't directly sell or lease to {{variable.customers}}. They can range from valuable items, such as furniture and technology, to less expensive items, such as access cards and locker keys.

Manage your {{variable.assets}} and see who it's assigned to at any time from the {{variable.Inventory_Section}} {{variable.OnTheAdminPanel}}.

## How {{variable.Assets_CAP}} Works
First you'll need to [create your {{variable.assets}} inventory](/docs/adding-assets){target=`_blank`} for the items you want to track.

You can then [assign {{variable.assets}}](/docs/assigning-equipment){target=`_blank`} to {{variable.customers}}, {{variable.floorplanitems}}, and {{variable.resources}} to know who's using them at all times. You can assign {{variable.assets}} for a set period of time or on a rolling basis.

You can also assign a value to your {{variable.assets}}, but unlike {{variable.products}}, assigning {{variable.assets}} to {{variable.customers}} will **never trigger a charge**.

:::(Info) (Want to [insure your {{variable.asset}}](/docs/insuring-your-assets){target=`_blank`} in case a {{variable.customer}} damages or never returns some items? )
Consider factoring the value of the {{variable.assets}} into {{variable.plan}} {{variable.deposits}} or {{variable.plan}} prices to cover the repair or replacement of damaged and missing items.
