# Assigning Equipment to Floor Plan Units

Assigning {{variable.assets}} to {{variable.floorplanitems}} is usually best when the {{variable.asset}} is associated with a specific {{variable.item}}, such as desks and chairs in private offices. 

*For example, if each private office has a desk and a chair, you can assign these to the {{variable.floorplanitem}} representing that specific office.*

Assign the {{variable.asset}} to the [{{variable.resource}}](/docs/assigning-assets-to-resources){target=`_blank`} instead.

You can assign each piece of {{variable.asset}} to only one {{variable.floorplanitem}}. You can't assign {{variable.assets}} to {{variable.floorplanitems}} in bulk. 
::::(Warning) (Assigning {{variable.assets}} to a {{variable.floorplanitem}} **doesn't** assign it to the {{variable.customer}} who has been assigned that {{variable.item}} via a contract.)

4. {{variable.SELECT}} **Available for a specific {{variable.floorplanitem}}** in the **Assign to** section.  
5. {{variable.SELECT}} the {{variable.floorplanitem}} you want to link to your {{variable.asset}}.

Repeat the process for any other {{variable.asset}} you'd like to connect to a {{variable.floorplanitem}}. 

Once this {{variable.asset}} is assigned to a {{variable.floorplanitem}}, if you plan to offer it as part of a contract, you can also [assign the {{variable.assets}} to customers](/docs/assigning-assets-to-customers){target=`_blank`}.

*For example, if you offer furnished offices, you can assign the furniture inside to both the {{variable.floorplanitem}}  and the {{variable.customer}} leasing the office.*
