# Assigning Floor Plan Units to Contracts

You can assign {{variable.floorplanitems}} to any {{variable.customer}} {{variable.contract}}. {{variable.FloorPlanItems_CAP}} assigned to {{variable.contracts}} are automatically marked as occupied on the {{variable.floorplan}} as long as the linked {{variable.contracts}} are active.

We recommend assigning {{variable.floorplanitems}} to {{variable.contracts}} rather than {{variable.customers}} so that the {{variable.items}} automatically become available as soon as the linked {{variable.contracts}} end.
:::(Error) (Contract dates for the same {{variable.floorplanitem}} cannot overlap. )
 If the desk you want to assign to an upcoming {{variable.contract}} is already assigned to another {{variable.contract}}, make sure the **cancellation date of the old {{variable.contract}} doesn't overlap with the start date of the new one**.

:::

### Existing Contracts
You can add {{variable.floorplanitems}} to any existing {{variable.contract}}.

2. {{variable.CLICK}} {{variable.Contracts_Link}}
3. {{variable.CLICK}} on the relevant {{variable.customer}} {{variable.contract}}.

4. {{variable.SCROLL}} the **Price** section.
5. {{variable.SELECT}} all the **Offices / desks** that you want to assign to the {{variable.contract}}.
:::(Info) (You should only select {{variable.floorplanitems}} that are **In Proposal** or **Unoccupied**.)
**Hot-desks** are the only {{variable.floorplanitems}} that you can assign to more than one {{variable.contract}}.
:::
6. {{snippet.Save_Changes}}

All set! The selected {{variable.floorplanitem}} is now part of the {{variable.customer}}'s {{variable.contract}}. It remains assigned to the {{variable.customer}} as long as the {{variable.contract}} is active. As soon as the {{variable.contract}} is cancelled, the {{variable.item}} becomes **Unoccupied** again on the {{variable.floorplan}}.
:::(warning) (Couldn't include an **unoccupied** {{variable.floorplanitem}} in your {{variable.proposal}}?)
The {{variable.floorplanitem}}'s availability start date probably doesn't match the {{variable.proposal}} {{variable.contract}}'s dates. Go to the {{variable.floorplanitem}}'s record and make sure the **Available from** date in the *Availability* section is set to the {{variable.proposal}} {{variable.contract}}'s start date or earlier.

*For example if the {{variable.proposal}} {{variable.contract}} is set to start on May 1st, the {{variable.floorplanitem}} should be available from May 1st or earlier.*

Alternatively, make sure the {{variable.item}}'s status is set to **in service**.
:::

### New Contracts
You can also add a {{variable.contract}} to a {{variable.customer}}'s account and assign them a specific {{variable.floorplanitem}} in one go.
