# Plan Freezing

## What is plan freezing?
Contract freezing lets admins and customers freeze their contract for a number of billing cycles without cancelling.

Contract freezing is a great tool to reduce churn and increase your membership rates.

## How contract freezing works
All admins who can edit contracts can freeze a plan at any time by default. If you'd like customers to let customers freeze their plan from the {{variable.MembersPortal}}, you can [allow that for some or all of the plans](/docs/allowing-contract-freezing){target=`_blank`} you currently sell.

### For admins
Admins can [freeze any customer plan](/docs/freezing-contracts-as-an-admin){target=`_blank`} from the customer's account or via {{variable.Contracts_Link}} {{variable.OnTheAdminPanel}}.

Admins can automatically override the freezing limits you've set for customers as well.

The freeze start date is always the first day of their next billing cycle. The freezing end date is the first day of the billing cycle when they want to restart their plan.

They're also able to [unfreeze their plan early](/docs/unfreezing-contracts-as-an-admin){target=`_blank`} if the customer wants to resume their plan early.

### For members
Based on the [freeze limits](/docs/allowing-contract-freezing){target=`_blank`} you've set in each of your plans, customers can also [freeze their own plan](/docs/freezing-contracts-as-a-member){target=`_blank`} in a few clicks on the {{variable.MembersPortal}}.

The freeze start date is always the first day of their next billing cycle. The freezing end date is the first day of the billing cycle when they want to restart their plan.

They're also able to [unfreeze their plan early](/docs/unfreezing-contracts-as-a-customer){target=`_blank`} if they wish to become members again.

## FAQ

### Can I pick a specific day to start or end the plan freeze on?
No, plan freezes always start on the first day of the customer's next billing cycle and end on the first day of the billing cycle it's supposed to restart on.

### Are customers with frozen contracts considered active users?
Yes, while they are no longer considered members, they keep getting invoiced for their purchases on their usual billing date, meaning they count towards your active user count.

### Do I have to allow plan freezing?
No, plan freezing is turned off by default for all your plans, meaning customers cannot freeze their plan unless you decide to allow it. Just rememember that any admin who can edit contracts and plans can use this feature from the {{variable.AdminPanel}}.
