# Discount Codes

## What are {{variable.DiscountCodes_CAPS}}?
{{variable.DiscountCodes_CAPS}} are discounts that you can give {{variable.customers}} via the {{variable.AdminPanel}} or share with {{variable.customers}} for them to use directly on the {{variable.MembersPortal}}. {{variable.DiscountCodes_CAP}} can be percentage-based or have a set monetary value.

*For example, you can create a {{variable.discountcode}} for 20% off bookings and another {{variable.discountcode}} for $15 off {{variable.plan}} signups.*

You can also control the following elements for any of your {{variable.discountcodes}}: 

* How many {{variable.customers}} can use the {{variable.discountcode}} 
* How many times each {{variable.customer}} can use the {{variable.discountcode}} 

## How to Use {{variable.DiscountCodes_CAPS}}
Once you've [created the {{variable.discountcodes}}](/v3/docs/adding-discount-codes){target="_blank"} via the {{variable.Finance_Section}} {{variable.OnTheAdminPanel}}, all you need to do is either directly add them to {{variable.customer}} accounts or share them.

You can  share {{variable.discountcodes}} with customers through your channel of choice ([articles](/v3/docs/articles){target="_blank"}, [newsletters](/v3/docs/newsletters){target="_blank"}, etc.). {{variable.Customers_CAP}} then have the option to apply the {{variable.discountcodes}} as they check out on the {{variable.MembersPortal}}.

## {{variable.DiscountCodes_CAPS}} and {{variable.Plans_CAP}}

If your {{variable.discountcodes}} are set up to apply to {{variable.plan}} purchases, you need to make sure that your discount validity starts on the day or prior to the customer's {{variable.contract}} start date.

*For example, a new customer's {{variable.contract}} is set to start on May 10th and you decided to offer a 10% discount on all purchases for new {{variable.customers}} in May.*

*Your discount's validity start date must be May 10th or earlier for the discount to apply to the new customer's {{variable.plan}} signup. If your discount's validity start date is May 11th or later, the discount won't apply to the {{variable.plan}} and its associated {{variable.contract}}.*

## {{variable.DiscountCodes_CAPS}} and Networks

If you manage a network of {{variable.locations}}, you can create {{variable.discountcodes}} in your *Network* {{variable.location}} and let all {{variable.customers}} across all {{variable.locations}} use the discount.
