# Subscribers

## What are {{variable.Subscribers_CAP}}?

Newsletter {{variable.subscribers}} are simply people who are signed up to your {{variable.space}} or who subscribe to your {{variable.newsletter}} via your {{variable.MembersPortal}}.

## How {{variable.Subscribers_CAP}} work 

Subscribers are organized into groups that let you segment your audience based on the {{variable.newsletter}} you're sending.

You can manually create subscriber groups or use smart groups that are dynamically populated and updated based on specific conditions.

:::(Warning) (You can't send {{variable.newsletters}} to individual {{variable.subscribers}}.)
You can send a {{variable.newsletter}} to a group where the {{variable.subscriber}} is the only {{variable.member}}.

## Default {{variable.Subscribers_CAP}}

You have the following {{variable.subscribers}} in your account by default:

* **All {{variable.members}} and {{variable.contacts}}**
* **Anyone who signed up to your {{variable.newsletter}} via your {{variable.MembersPortal}}**
