# Strong Customer Authentication (SCA)

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), a new regulation for authenticating online payments, was rolled out across Europe as part of the Second Payment Services Directive (PDS2) in September 2019.

SCA aims to reduce the incidence of payer fraud and increase security by introducing two-factor authentication on all electronic payments.

SCA is a legal requirement if your business and your customer's payment service providers are both located within the European Economic Area (EEA). If only one party is located within the EEA, using a SCA-compliant payment provider isn't mandatory.

## Which Providers Support SCA?

Nexudus lets you enable a wide array of card payment payment gateways through Spreedly.

You need to make sure that the payment method you want to use supports SCA. You can check SCA support in just a few clicks.

1. Go to [spreedly.com/gateways](https://www.spreedly.com/gateways)
2. Search the payment gateway you'd like to use.
3. Make sure the payment method supports **Spreedly 3DS2 Global**, **Gateway Specific 3DS2** or both.

If the selected payment method doesn't support either or both, you won't be able to use it.

          Using Stripe Payment Intents?

If you are using Stripe as your current payment method, you need to switch to Stripe Payment Intents to be SCA-compliant. You can easily switch to [Stripe Payment Intents](/v3/docs/stripe-payment-intents) in Nexudus.

## Updating the Members Portal for SCA

This process is only necessary for spaces using **[Version 2](/v3/docs/finding-your-members-portal-version)** of the Members Portal.

We usually recommend you switch over to **Version 4** of our Members Portal instead of following this process. The switch is completely free, facilitates SCA compliance and lets you enjoy the latest features of the Members Portal.

For more information, you can always [contact support](https://help.nexudus.com/docs/contacting-support).

1. Log in to [dashboard.nexudus.com](https://dashboard.nexudus.com/) if you aren't already.
2. Click [**Settings > Web templates editor**](https://dashboard.nexudus.com/settings/editor/templates).
3. Open the **payment_scripts.htm** file.
4. Click on **Update**.
5. Open the **payment_history.htm** file.
6. Click **Update**.

All set! Your Members Portal should now support SCA.
