Article summary

This article is designed to help you build courses. Each course component is broken down and explained with real examples.

Courses

Courses are the frame that hold course sections and course lessons. Your customers complete courses to learn something new. Prior to creating a new course, you should think about two key points:

Audience

You need to know who will follow your course to know what you should include in the course. Knowing your audience helps you narrow down the learning or training content you need to create.

For example, if you want to create a course on meditation, figure out if you want to reach complete beginners or people who are already familiar with meditation practices.

Learning goals

Providing a clear idea of what your customers should know or be able to do by the end of the course is a great way to keep them engaged. People want to get something by the end of their course, whether that is a new skill or knowledge.

For example, if you want to introduce your customers to meditation, the course learning goal could be starting their meditation practice.

If you want to create a course to learn HTML and CSS, the course learning goal could be having a responsive web page ready.

Course Sections

Course sections help you build the structure of your courses and group lessons. You create sections according to the different milestones that want your customers to reach within the course.

Each section should be designed to get your customers closer to the course's learning goal. Customers should finish each section with more knowledge or skills than when they started.

For example, if you offer a meditation course for beginners the different sections could be:

  • What is Meditation?
  • Preparing for your First Meditation Session
  • Your First Guided Meditation Session
  • Reflecting on your First Meditation Session
  • Implementing Meditation as a Regular Practice

Each section clearly states what customers can expect to learn or do. Each section then contains one or several lessons that provide detailed information and step-by-step content. In this case, after each section, your customer should be one step closer to the course's learning goal.

A rule of thumb, try to alternate between informational and actionable lessons to keep your learners engaged.

Course Lessons

Course lessons are the individual building blocks of your courses in Nexudus. They are learning units that your customers complete to chip away at a concept or a skill defined in each course section.

For example, Preparing for your First Meditation Session for a meditation course could include the following lessons:

  • Preparing your Meditation Space
  • Understanding the Meditative State
  • Finding the Right Meditation Posture
  • Clearing your Mind for Meditation

Each lesson breaks down one of the substeps customers should complete to reach the section's overarching goal: being prepared for their first meditation session.
