What are late cancellation fees?
Late cancellation fees are fees you can automatically charge customers when they cancel their bookings at the last minute. This charge can be a percentage of their booking's total price or a flat fee.
For example, you can charge 50% of the booking's price or $200 if customers cancel their booking for conference rooms less than 72 hours in advance.
You can have a single cancellation fee that applies to all bookings or multiple late cancellation fees based on customer group, when the cancellation is made, or the booking's total price.
Late cancellation fees are a great way to let customers cancel their bookings last minute while also accounting for the potential revenue loss it represents for your space.
How late cancellation fees work
You can set up cancellation fees for resources in two simple steps:
- Create a late cancellation fee product
- Add late cancellation fees to the relevant resources customers can book
You can add booking cancellation fees to any of your resources in one of two ways:
Single late cancellation fee
This option is ideal if you want to:
- Charge all customers the same fee when they cancel at the last minute
- Have the same cut-off time for all customers
Multiple late cancellation fees
This option is ideal if you want to:
- Charge different fees based on whether customers are contacts, members, or members on specific plans
- Apply different fees based on when the booking cancellation is made
- Apply different fees based on the total booking price
For example, you can charge a 25% cancellation fee if the booking price is under $200 and 50% if it's $200 or more.
